This product (like someone said) has plenty of room for work... But it's not like you got a lot of choices out there.. So I'm giving it a high score because I want to encourage this direction...
Actually the idea of using it for other items, other than a bike, is really attractive. It's worth it, If not, just for that. But you can walk away with it by not going off like you would carry "that" grocery bag - the one with the eggs in it; and when they have you attaching it on by only plastic zip tie's, it makes you wonder...
It needs a pretty good knock to set it off but attaching it to anywhere on the handle bars or front fork will do fine. BUT to keep it permanently attached to the bike (I don't think so) because it rattles - it has little metal balls inside that are used to detect the difference in motion... Do you really want to hear a rattle all the time on your bike when you ride? I don't think so....
So I use some Velcro tape and put it on the handle bars when I'm in a store.. Am I glad I bought it (yes)... Do I wish it was better (yes)... Will I still look (or wait) for other products (yes)....

This is actally a replacement alarm for my bicycle. This will be my 3rd alarm system in 15 years. I was quite please at how fast it arrived & how technically advanced it is in comparason to my other 2 alarms. I felt the instructions & screws to the battery cover were a bit too small. I liked the multiple mounting options & the many other features the alarm system offered. I felt very disappointed at how loud it is. It needs to be about 10 times louder. Also it is totally worthless in a high noise environment. The noise sets the alarm off constantly & can't be heard at all at a distance of 10 yards. As long as you are not parking your bicycle anywhere near an industrial complex, this is the perfect alarm for your bicycle.

I bought two Ducharme alarms, after watching Pierre Ducharme's excellent online video review, as my husband and I have bought new bicycles. I had heard of these audible alarms and seen some cheap versions on ebay, but nothing to compete with the technology of the Ducharme, I could not find anything available in the UK. I was told when ordering that due to customs clearance the package could take up to three weeks to arrive, but in the event they arrived in just over a week. I had a slight problem with one of the alarms, which was immediately sorted by Pierre Ducharme when I contacted him via email, so great communication with the seller! My husband fitted the Alarms and has told me to mention in this review that he felt the bottle holder bosses were by far the best fixing point. The alarm is very loud as I found out when I forgot to disarm it once when unlocking my bike!!! Very easy to programme in code, much better than the chance of losing a key. I have only had this a few weeks, but am very happy with it and feel it is not just an audible deterrent but also a visual one. To sum up, I have no hesitation in recommending this product and this supplier, plus it is not just bicycles it protects, it has many other uses as can be seen in the video. One of my family has already sent for one and it also arrived in just over a week.

The alarm itself is a great product, but it does have one and only one fault. That fault is in the mounting bracket supplied. The brackets supplied are constructed of plastic and have plastic tabs which the alarm attaches to. These tabs are so flimsy that they break off on the first use, so don't expect to get more than one use out of them. Now the base of the alarm has a slot that tie-wraps can be used to mount the unit or you can mount it on your bottle cage bosses. Using those two methods are fine and sturdy.
The alarm allows the owner to change the combination, and it also allows programing of how many times the bicycle or other property can be touched before setting off the alarm. The alarm is plenty loud and draws lots of attention. The alarm uses ball bearings as the motion sensing switches and you do hear them when riding, I don't find it to anoying as I remove the alarm and place it in my bike bag.
All in all I think the alarm is a worth while product to buy despite its mounting system.
