Product Description
Shawn Phillips is an internationally respected strength and fitness expert who has helped athletes, celebrities, and tens of thousands of others over the past twenty years. Now he’s sharing his fresh approach to fitness with everyone. Strength for Life is an easy-to-implement program to help you get in fantastic shape, enjoy abundant energy, and maintain a lean, strong physique–not just for 12 weeks but for the rest of your life.

Let’s face it, with the demands of family, work, and life, many of us simply don’t have the time to stick to a rigorous workout schedule. Through his own life experience, Shawn Phillips has recognized this challenge and risen to it, literally reinventing fitness with a results-oriented program that you can embrace even with your hectic schedule and do either at home or at the gym. Homing in on the idea of building mental and physical strength rather than just sculpting your body, Shawn has pioneered a technique called Focus Intensity Training ™ (FIT), which uses the mind-body connection to yield incredible results. The program features

• a workout plan that can take as little as 35 minutes a day, 3 times a week
• illustrated exercises with clear step-by-step instructions
• 3 workout phases–a 12-day Base Camp pre-training period, a 12-week Transformation Camp, and a year-round continuation plan geared to keep you going strong and vibrant for the rest of your life
• a simple eating plan to fuel your body for optimum energy and performance–one that will free you from dieting forever
• goal-setting exercises to help you achieve lasting motivation and reach your loftiest visions

It’s never too late to get in shape. If you’re in your twenties or thirties, Strength for Life will show you how to achieve peak levels of fitness year after year. For those forty and beyond, you can look forward to recapturing the energy and vitality you thought you had lost. By following Strength for Life, you will make yourself stronger, leaner, sharper, and more confident. As Shawn writes: “Strength is about being more, doing more, giving more. It’s not just surviving; it’s thriving. And most important, strength is about having a reserve, a deeper, fuller capacity of body, mind, heart, and soul.”

5 out of 5 stars Finally - A New Fitness Spark!   June 30, 2008

What a GREAT book! The book is a quick read and is loaded with sensible fitness and nutrition information that just makes sense. I'd like to put emphasis on the fact that this information JUST MAKES SENSE. Above all this book makes you believe that you CAN make a change in yourself!

Over the years work, family, house chores, fast food, and hobbies have taken the place of fitness. About a year ago I realized I had let myself go. After five+ years of treating my body like "an ole honky-tonk" (a line from Kenny Chesney) it's hard to flip on the fitness switch. I tried several different training programs, aerobics, and a couple of other things but nothing stuck. I tried these programs and I just couldn't get motivated enough to make them successful.

Strength for Life did something for me - it sparked a motivation that I haven't felt in years. I'm inspired, I'm excited, and I'm ready to transform!

5 out of 5 stars Not going to get long winded   June 20, 2008

I will not get long winded in my review of this book. Having been in the Fitness industry since 1983, I got more out of the first 40 pages than out of my first 15 years. Too bad more blank spots were not available in the book to make notes...........I could have mad a zillion....

Thanks for a great motivational and learning read Shawn.

4 out of 5 stars Base Camp information very key   June 16, 2008

As a wellness professional and someone who has been involved with fitness and optimal health promotion for over 20 years, addressing the need for a "base camp" as mental and bodily preparation is the most important idea and recomendation in this work. For most Americans, any strength and fitness aspirations/goals require first getting adequate sleep and a real reduction in the moment-to-moment levels of stress and a true letting go and healing of the stress the body is holding. Only then will people be willing and able to listen to their bodies and consistently build strength in the ways Phillips simply and beautifully describes and explains. Well done!

"Strength for Life" is the simplest, most direct, and well written books on fitness and health ever on the market. As a personal trainer, I have read hundreds of fitness books with lots of information similar to what is in Shawn's book, but no other book I have read gives as simple a game plan for achieving Strength, and ultimately Health, as does "Strength for Life". This book is filled with strategies that will empower you to succeed and you will feel inspired and moved to a life of Strength just through the words. Shawn is an eloquent writer and he gives easy to understand analogies, graphs, charts and pictures to illustrate difficult information surrounding nutrition, health and exercise. I am recommending every one of my clients pick up this book and many of them have. "Strength" truly is the fitness plan for the rest of my life.

5 out of 5 stars The key strength, health & ftiness   June 8, 2008

I was very pleased when I picked up this book. I've been struggling to get in shape, build more muscle, lose fat, but more importantly just feel healthy & happy with my life. Instead of trying to consult several different books, which is something I've tried numerous times in the past, I'm confident that I can use this book to guide me to be successful. Everything that I need to know is here from pre-transformation, transformation & post-transformation. It's well-written, based on good nutritional & exercise science and Shawn's extensive experience.

The holistic approach that Shawn Phillips presents in Strength for Life: The Fitness Plan for the Rest of Your Life is exactly what I have been looking for. The book is broken down into four main sections:
*A Time for Strength
*Base Camp: 12 Days That Will Recharge Your Body & Mind
*Transformation Training Camp: 12 Weeks That Will Change Your Life
*Week 13 & Beyond: 12 Months That Will Set You Free

What I enjoyed most about this book his incorporation of getting your mind & body ready before you start the transformation. This is so important. We prepare for big vacations, parties, and college. Why wouldn't we spend time preparing mentally & physically for a transformation?

Some may not find this very novel. No, much of the information is out there in other books, but not one single book as this one.

Twelve days from now I begin my transformation, and I'm positive that after all my failures--or trial runs, shall I say?--that I'm going to get to my goal one way or another.

Thanks, Shawn!
