Lost 40 pounds May 25, 2008 Lost 40 pounds in one month to requalify on my Navy physical in 1982 on the Pritikin diet. I couldn't run a city block before starting it. By week 3 I was running 5 miles. Twice each year I went on the diet during my stint in the Navy to complete the physical readiness tests. At age 44 I ran the mile and a half in 7:54 and max'd out on the PRT. I had trained on the diet for 2 weeks.
It really works! January 19, 2000 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
I followed the recommended diet for Maximum Weight Loss plan and lost 10 lbs in 7 weeks. My cholesterol level dropped from 220 to 156 in that time also. I continued to follow the maintenance plan for over a year and kept the weight off. I just had a baby and plan to follow the plan again to get back to my goal weight!
Good but should be updated August 11, 1999 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This book had some useful information in it, although much of the material is 20 years old and I'm sure that we have better nutritional information now than then. For instance, Pritikin eliminates all oils including olive oil, and yet there is other literature that pushes the health benefits of olive oil.
The best diet/health book ever written July 9, 1999 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
While it is not the most popular, The Pritikin Program will help anyone lose weight quickly while maintaining the proper nutritional balance. Especially good for those people interested in losing body fat. I managed to get down to 3% body fat and 130 Cholesterol level while following Pritikin. While you need not follow the program in its entirety, it is an especially useful guide to helping the dieter get more fit while feeling better.
the definitive book about nutrition, way ahead of his time June 13, 1999 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Nathan was so far ahead of his time, people actually scoffed at his ideas about the link between nutrition and heart disease. Now we know much more than he did, but this basic overview makes more sense than any other book I have read on the subject.
