4 out of 5 stars A manual for life. Not to be read and put on the bookshelf.   November 26, 2008
To get the most out of this book it needs to be read over and over again; and not necessarily in the order of 'front cover to back cover'. If you want an informative book that you can reference to again and again this is a great choice. To get the most out of your money this book is not one that can be read once and shelved. It's a book that will forever stay off the bookshelf. If you are seriously looking to improve your health and lifestyle - it's great; if not - save your money.

5 out of 5 stars useful information   October 30, 2008
Paul Chek is sometimes labeled as a complete radical in the fitness industry. While some of his work is off the beaten path of mainstream american society be careful not to make the mistake of missing the whole point by focusing on a few items that might not correlate with your own belief system. In 'How to Eat, Move and Be Healthy' Chek gives some great guidance that can be carried out immediately to improve one's health. This guidance includes consuming clean water, organic food, following a proper sleep/wake cycle, etc. I've been a fitness coach/personal trainer for nearly two years now. This book has given me plenty of great things to consider when working with people in the trenches.

5 out of 5 stars A long needed wake up call   June 20, 2008

This book is a breath of fresh air in a stale subject area. We all know that we need to eat well and exercise to be healthy. However most books still recommend a one-size-fits-all approach. This book is different.

We as human beings are all biochemically unique. We are as different on the outside as we are on the inside. Our nutrition plans, exercise programs, stress management and lifestyle all have to be different so we can achieve optimal health. On the same page though, we all have commonalities. We all need water, air, food and shelter to survive. This book informs us on the how and the why to do it.

The book covers a vast amount of information without too much technical information. There are also mind maps which cater for the more visual learner. It covers:
1. Food quality
2. Exercise - including flexibility, core function, performance training and energetic exercise
3. Digestion
4. Sleep
5. Customized individual nutrition plans
6. Stress and its affect on the body

Paul has done a brilliant job in teaching us the fundamentals of how to get healthy, not just how to avoid disease. True health is not a magic pill, potion or supplement; it can only be achieved by sticking to fundamental principles and listening to the person who knows your body best - you!

This book is all that you need to understand in order to train ones self. For the trainers out there, like myself, you can learn quite a bit and add depth to your current client's routines. I would consider it a must-have and I currently rank it among the top ten resources that I use nearly on a daily basis. Personal Fitness Training: 5 years as a NASM CPT and CES.
