Product Description
WRITING WITH A THESIS: A RHETORIC AND READER is based on the persuasive principle-the development and support of a thesis in order to persuade a reader, which is exactly the skill beginning writers in freshman composition just like you need to develop. The book dispenses clear and practical writing advice in a clear and practical way. Leavened with lots of good humor-in both its advice and in its examples of good professional writing-WRITING WITH A THESIS is renowned for being useful and enjoyable to read. Nineteen of the book's 50 professional essays are new to this edition and 3 of 10 student essays are also new, providing fresh voices, variety, and relevance. Almost all of the essays are short and easy to read so that class time can be devoted not to what the readings mean, but to what they mean for your writing.

I really liked skimming through it. I didnt get a chance to use it, since it was the wrong book for my class. But i did glance through it, and its great for someone who is trying to write properly.

5 out of 5 stars Written Clearly and Easy to Understand   September 9, 2007
English and writing are not my favorite subjects. I am taking college classes and this book has helped me immensely. It is written very clearly and detailed with easy to understand examples and essays. It has helped me to become a better writer. You will learn how to handle writing assignments and be given examples of different methods to consider. There are specific pointers, suggestions and tips to help you when you get stuck in your writing. It has written informal discussions about writing that answer questions of other students. It is not a standard English textbook. It is written in a way that holds your interest and between the serious to the humorous, you will retain more of what you read.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent for freshman comp.   January 10, 2007

I teach freshman composition at a community college and found this book invaluable. I actually shun the required book and have adopted this for my class. I use it for suggestions, as a reference - and my students love it. It's a very easy read and extremely helpful. I also really love the way it is divided into the different rhetorical styles of writing. It also has great examples and tips. I highly recommend this book!!!
