1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money on this book   May 25, 2008

I am a Kathy Smith fan. I have numerous books, dvds and vcr cassettes that I love by Kathy. I could't wait for this new book to be delivered, and boy was I disappointed. The poor quality of paper that it's printed on was not a good sign, nor were the typing errors that got past editing. My impression was that very little time or effort went into this book. The content is extremely limited and of very little help for anyone like me who thought they would find a weight loss diet and exercise program in this book. I've read magazine articles with more content than this book. Kathy, if you're out to make an easy buck, be careful, because you'll lose your faithful followers and have a hard time winning them back . . . I for one will be very wary before making an other Kathy Smith purchase.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   March 27, 2008

This is probably the best diet book out there! I have always followed Kathy Smith's workouts in the past 20 years. Now that I am post menopause, I needed a lifestyle change. This was it. The first week teaches you discipline. It actually is fun if you like a challenge (planning and shopping for your meals). I was amazed at how my cravings for sweets tamed down. Second week was good because I felt a change. I also was happy to add carbs! (Actually felt guilty.) Again a challenge. Third week....it became a habit and part of my lifestyle. I plan on keeping this going. Would be happy to get back into the clothes that fit me just before starting menopause!!! Talk about turning back the clock. Make sure you exercise!!!!! Big factor in this and drinking water!!!! I chose to use her sculpting dvd the first 2 weeks. Later add aerobics. And when the weather changes, walking!! Good luck to all and stick to it. It works!!!!

My first week I followed this plan to the 'T'. Kind of a South Beach-esque approach with little to no carbs from flour at all- lots of fish, and veggies. The meals are easy to prepare and I was really worried because I have no idea what to do with fish- but my cooking times never went over 20 minutes. By the end of week one, I was feeling wonderful but gave into some nagging cravings for bread-related things. Don't give in, because it throws you off terribly. It was a few days before I was back on track.

I felt as if I was always eating- 3 meals and 2 snacks. My only complaint is that you need to follow the plan so closely to succeed which requires a lot of planning if you need to be out and about. It was like a job to me; planning all the meals an snacks, shopping, eating at the times she suggests and exercising. I'm a stay at home mom and it was pretty time consuming to me- mostly planning and grocery shopping.

This diet simply makes sense. It follows a simple equation: protein plus vitamin c plus fiber. Following that means you get plenty of high quality protein, along with fruits and vegetables. You're encouraged to eat three meals and two snacks a day at regular intervals to keep blood sugars steady.
I've followed it for two weeks and have lost 14 pounds so far. I haven't been hungry. Kathy Smith offers wonderful, easy recipes...shopping lists..and snack lists.
I haven't used the exercise section of the book, simply because I prefer to use Kathy Smith's DVDs. But I quick perusal shows me that it contains her usual clear directions and concern for packing the most into the least amount of time..an important consideration for people with busy schedules.
I've tried just about every diet I can think of. This one, finally, has the makings of being more than a diet...of being a lifetime eating plan.
Try it. You'll like it!
