About Mio
The story of Mio began in 1999 when it was created by entrepreneur and mother of three, Liz Dickinson. Like many of us, Liz balances family and career, leaving little time for fitness. After several unsuccessful attempts to achieve her fitness goals and shed the pregnancy weight-gain of her third child, Liz turned to a personal trainer for advice. While working with a trainer, Liz realized the key to getting in shape and staying in shape is to practice smart eating habits, monitoring calorie intake, and using a heart rate monitor to ensure that she exercises at the right level. Liz realized there wasn't a product available on the market that would easily help her follow her trainer's advice.

Liz didn't have time to read labels and carry a calorie journal in her purse, nor did she have much patience for the uncomfortable chest strap she had to wear to get her heart rate. She knew there had to be a better way, so Liz used her technology and marketing savvy to create Mio, the world's first heart rate monitor to work without a chest strap. And, it didn't stop with just heart rate, as Mio also has a patented calorie management system that offers a straightforward approach to managing your diet. With the help of Mio and a balanced diet, Liz was able to shed those unwanted pounds and gain the benefits that come with improved fitness: more energy, more vitality, and less stress, and help many others do the same with the creation of Mio's products.

1 out of 5 stars Doesn't work well at all   September 25, 2008
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

Based on the reviews for this product, I expected great things, but was incredibly disappointed. I first tried this watch when I went for a run. I could not get a heart rate reading without having to stop to a slow walk. I figured, maybe I am just moving around too much and can't hold steady while running to get a good read. I thought it would work much better in a spin class, so the following morning I wore it at a spin class, and every single time I tried to get a heart rate reading, I got nothing! I was defintitely doing everything according to the instructions. THe little "TEST" reading with the heart came up, but NO READING! I must have tried it at least 10 different times during the class. Needless to say, I am VERY disappointed with this product and am returning it. Unfortunately for me, the company charges a "15% restocking fee" which I think is totally bogus. Don't buy this product.

4 out of 5 stars MioPink Motiva Heart Rate/Calorie Monitor and Watch   September 16, 2008
I really do like the watch. It has a much more accurate calorie counter than the ones on the equipment at the gym. I was flabbergasted after spending an hour each day at the gym to find that I had only burned 350 calories (per the equipment) 2.5 miles running and 8 on the stationary bike. Those are averages. After buying the watch entering in my weight, age, and heart rate I found I was actually burning between 750 and 800 calories in my hour workout! Whew! It is much cheaper than the Bodybugg that I was also looking at, and for me serves the same purpose and is smaller and less conspicuous. I recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars LOVE THE WATCH...BUT...   September 15, 2008
This is my third mio...it is my third because I love them, it is my third because the watch doesn't hold up when you wear it day in and day out. The glass and metal get pretty beat up when you have a job like nursing. But, I keep buying them because I love the watch. The motiva is a little advanced for me in the technologic sense. I have had difficulty trying to do the cool down mode. I keep hitting the wrong button and it doesn't work right, but that would be me not the watch...anyway...this is a great watch, and though it is a little big, maybe you smaller women could try the petite size and love it like I do.

5 out of 5 stars Mio Motiva Heart Rate Monitor   August 18, 2008
After careful research, I decided to get this watch/heart rate monitor and I have been quite happy with it from the very beginning. Following the instructions that came with the watch was very easy, and after 2 days I knew it well enough to not having to carry the instructions with me. When it comes to the actual use, it's very helpful as long as you don't mind inputting all the calories you ate into the watch. I was able to set up a realistic goal for myself that this watch is certainly making it quite easy for me to reach. Using it in the gym to count calories burnt is even easier, all you have to remember is to calculate your heart rate often (the instruction tells you how to do it and it's beyond easy), during the exercise and during rest times. I am quite happy with this watch and although it is big, I only use it in the gym and hence the size doesn't bother me. I would recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars great for data heads!   August 15, 2008
This was my second Motiva watch (previously had shape elite) Love the user changeable battery feature and no chest strap monitoring. Nice design and easy to check heart rate when walking or light jogging, not so easy when at a full run to keep fingers on testing site.
