Excellent January 7, 2009 Directions were clear and concise. Have only tried the white bread but had absolutely no problems. Used a box of bread machine mix. The only problem is that I will probably eat entirely too much bread because it was delicious. Better switch to the healthy wheat recipe.
Oster Breadmaker January 6, 2009 I bought this for my husband for his birthday. He uses it at least once a week and loves it. I would definitely recommend it. Once again disappointed with shipping (as with other items shipped from Amazon). The boxed was damaged and cover of instruction booklet was also damaged. It was shipped inside a box that was not damaged so once again I believe the box was damaged before shipping. Maybe this is just normal for products shipped from Amazon.

Better than expected December 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was going to order this from Amazon but my wife saw a deal on it at a store and bought it for me. First of all, I have baked a lot of bread and doughs with a Black and Decker and then a Toastmaster. Both were "2 pound capable" and had vertical baking pans. I was never able to get consistent results. Typically I bake heavier whole grain breads. I have baked several different bread recipes and doughs in the Oster and have yet to be disappointed. First my only CON: The clips that hold the basket in place are not perfectly made or aligned. I have to be attentive when I lock the basket in place. Now several PROs: 1)The instruction manual and recipe book is concise and I find it well organized. 2) I have used several recipes, some with my own modifications, and they have all resulted in excellent bread or doughs. 3) The machine is light, much lighter than my previous machines. Easy to get out and put away. 4) It is attractive on my counter. 5) Makes a traditional looking loaf. 6) The rising cycles have exceeded my expectations. I am using year-old instant yeast that I buy in a pressure packed aluminum block (very cheap). I see no reason to use the jars of bread machine yeasts; at least not at this time. 7)It has three crust options. I have used all three and they work.
After uneven results with my other bread machines, I intended to use my next (this) one for dough only. The baked bread from this machine has been great. Hopefully, it will last; after all, it is not very heavy (or expensive).
BTW, I only make grain breads with a few additives like oat bran or ground flax, sesame, etc. Use quality unbleached, pure flours; store them and the yeasts properly and you will have won half of the battle.
Best for heavy doughs! December 21, 2008 I like to make heavy German breads, other machines I've tried simply don't have enough power to mix the heavy dough properly. Note: I only use a bread machine to make the sponge/dough. It provides a good environment for overnighting the sponge, and making the dough the next day.
Oster Bread Machine December 18, 2008 We liked our first machine so well that we purchased a second one. It is quiter than other brands we have used and does an excelent job. We use both machines simultaneously and rarely by commercial bread anymore.
