3 out of 5 stars As a dentist, this is a MUST for some.   June 22, 2007

As a dentist who stresses flossing to my patients, I am not one to promote products I don't personally use. But as I counsel every patient, new and existing, every day, I've come to the realization that flossing manually is not something people are going to start doing or start doing routinely for life. So what I did was purchase this Waterpik Flosser and just got it in today. I read the instructions manual completely and read all of their claims, such as easy to use, ergonomic, minty, and whitening effects. Well... I already have my own first impressions of the product, but as I do with all things, I give every product some time so that I can give a more accurate impression. But to keep you from all of the suspense, I'll list some of my first impression takes:

1) it is not as straightforward. You can't simply take it out of the box and start using it.
2) it requires 24 hours on the base before using. Not good for those people excited about opening up boxes and using it right away.
3) if on a durability scale from 1-10, it appears to be a 6.
4) it comes with 45 tips. refills run about $5 for 30 tips. That makes it almost 17-20 cents each tip. They recommend using a new tip each time. And depending on their use, it may require more than one tip per use. VERY expensive. Then again... nothing dental is cheap.

I'll provide more details later as I am writing down all I need to so that I can make an accurate review on this and place it on my smileiq site with other reviews.

Right now... I recommend it if flossing with the cheap string is totally out of the question. Secondly, if you have braces, implants, crowns, bridges, this is a must-get even if you floss.

3 out of 5 stars It's Too Easy........Something Must Be Wrong   November 10, 2006

The rechargeable flosser is well made and compact. It's about the size of a fat fountain pen (remember those) with a beak. When turned on, it produces a low buzzing sound like a small dentist drill, and the flossing tip vibrates back-and-forth about l/16 of an inch and a hundred times a second. Just guide it between your teeth and gums and it supposedly removes plaque and tartar. It feels good and is extremely easy to use. It fits up near the gums, but some teeth are too close together away from the gum line for the tip to fit.
The flosser was recommended by my dentist because I neglected to floss regularly. Now, with the flosser I'm doing much better. Bottom line: Easier than floss, better under the gum line, but misses some areas.

1 out of 5 stars A complete waste of money   November 3, 2006

I am always looking at new and improved ways to care for my teeth. This is a stupid product. It contains a plastic 'toothpick' that vibrates. PERIOD. It does nothIng to clean between the gums that dental floss can't do and DENTAL FLOSS does it so much better. Save your money. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

4 out of 5 stars Good dental product   July 5, 2006

This flosser is very easy and comfortable to use. It can prevent and remove dental calculus, even more effective than manual floss. However, this cannot totally replace manual floss, since it is too thick.

5 out of 5 stars Flossing made easy   February 27, 2006

I have NEVER flossed and have paid the price because I hated trying to get the floss between my teeth and dealing with the string. Now with my new Waterpik flosser I slip the tip between my teeth hit the button and move to the new tooth. I have a huge bridge and it is VERY painful to floss using normal floss and don't even get me started about getting the floss behind my bridge to start with. I now just slip the tip of the flosser in hit the button and move it along my bridge and I am done. Everyone needs one these flossers.
