Do be Educated about Milk Thistle- Read this, then read the medical literature May 31, 2008

Don't listen to that really long comment. I think its a seller's own posting... The truth is that it (milk thistle) is helpful, but only so much. Its like taking a tylenol for a headache. It'll help a good bit, but for an amputation, heh... who's kidding who? So to claim it will help liver diseases or specifically 600 mg will cure all ailments as not really, but alludingly claimed, is simply bogus. But this is a good product, and it DOES HAVE GOOD QUALITIES.

STANDARDIZED SILYMARIN IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO, AND THIS PRODUCT ISN'T STANDARDIZED!!!!
IN A NUTSHELL: VERY SAFE BUT THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS COME ONLY FROM STD. DOSE
The current scientific literature shows that Milk Thistle, standardized to 80% "Silymarin", in doses of about 600 mg. per day offer therapeutic benefits in the maintenance of a healthy liver.
Specifically, clinical research has shown that; Alcohol-related liver disease, Hepatitis, Liver cirrhosis and Gallstones are conditions that standardized Milk Thistle has been shown to improve over a period of at least 8-12 weeks of continued use.
CAUTION:
Bear in mind that some of the above conditions are potentially fatal, and all are serious. Therefore, the care of a qualified physician is necessary, and the use of any product should NOT be considered to be an adequate self-treatment as a cure or preventative.
HAVING SAID THAT: WHOLE HERB MILK THISTLE IS A SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD LIKE BREWER'S YEAST OR WHEAT GERM - NOT A MEDICINE WHICH STD. SILYMARIN IS!!!!!
Standardized Milk Thistle, UNLIKE the product being offered here, is very beneficial to people who take presciptions drugs, are exposed to environmental toxins or that have concerns about the health of their Liver. Fortunately, Milk thistle is among the safest herbs one can consume, but STANDARDIZATION for Silymarin is essential if a therapeutic effect is desired.
ABOUT BRANDS: MANY DECENT BRANDS - BUT STANDARDIZATION IS ESSENTIAL
Yes, of course I think "Nature's Way" is tops and "Now" is excellent, but the "Swanson Superior Herbs" product, which is standardized for 80% silymarin, is the one on my shelf. Honestly, for me, this is a matter of cost, and the Swanson product costs less than half as much as the Nature's Way product. Occasionally, Swanson runs buy 1 & get 1 free promos for this specific product. That is when I get mine, generally I buy 3 and get 3 free. Bear in mind, the product being offered here is not standardized, but Swanson does offer it under the label of "SWANSON SUPERIOR HERBS" - "MILK THISTLE" and it is available at this site, right now.
WHY & HOW TO TAKE MILK THISTLE:
I take 3-4 capsules of Swanson Superior Herbs - Standardized Milk Thistle per day, on an empty stomach. I take Milk thistle because I take a large number of prescription medicines, and have for over twenty years. Naturally, I wish to help keep my Liver healthy, and this is one way I believe that I can. I do my own research, and my only motivation is the continued health of my family and myself.
