Good product November 21, 2008 Overall, this is a good heating pad. To have 8 settings is wonderful. Also, the 2 hour cut off is very nice, and you have the ability to set your own amount of time, from one half hour to "stay on".
The reason that it does not get a 5 rating, is because of the big plug connector on the pad itself. It definitely gets in the way, but most of the time I can reposition the thing. Hopefully Sunbeam will redesign this.
I believe the best part of this heating pad is the velcro, with an extension velcro piece, that lets you secure the pad in place. You can also unplug the cord from the pad itself (turn if off first), so that you can go get coffee, or whatever, without having to rewrap it onto yourself.
I have owned 3 of these now. I use my heating pads every day. The first one lasted for 3 or 4 years. The second one that I bought, lasted only a few days, having the turn off problems that others have described... on for a few seconds, then turned off by itself. Instead of throwing it away, as some people said in their reviews, I called Sunbeam directly, as my Amazon warranty had expired. Sunbeam stands by their products. When I explained to them that I could no longer return it to Amazon for a refund, they immediately sent me a new heating pad, exactly like the bad one, and it has worked perfectly, for about 7 months so far. I did not have to return the defective pad.
Sunbeam builds perfect...lemons February 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This heating pad is a total failure. Don't waste your time or money with it. It may actually work for a couple of times and then it will show the all too familiar F1 or F2 on the screenpad. Too bad the people at Sunbeam forgot to write in the manual what that means...or why it ceases to work when this happen. They must never use their products since this thing won't work. They should probably start selling this as a nice puzzle. Useless.
Nice feel, good control, does everything well but provide heat. December 24, 2007 It has a good solid well-built feel, and with eight heat settings and controllable auto-off times, what more could you want? Well, you might want heat. At the highest setting, it's just barely lukewarm. But today, during a power failure, with the house on generator power, I turned it on and at the lowest setting, it almost gave me serious burns. Definitely the electronics need some improvement.
Weak heat December 2, 2007 I agree with the reviews that found the heat to be lacking in this product. It does get not warm enough to do any good. Avoid
do not buy! very disappointing! November 27, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After using this thing for more than an hour, I still couldn't tell if my body was warming the heating pad or if the heating pad was warming my body. I tossed it under the bed in disgust and haven't used it since. It's got the fancy-smancy controls and velcro and looks pretty and shiny, but it's a major disappointment.
Remembering Mom's old heating pad, I went online and bought a USED heating pad - that dates back to the 1960s. When it arrived, I was pleased as punch. Fire that thing up and put it on LOW and the radiating warmth sends you to a state of raptured bliss. Set it on high and you'll be able to drop a couple eggs on it and fry 'em up real nice.
But this Sunbeam Heating Pad (featured here) is a waste of money. I was profoundly disappointed in its performance. On its highest heat setting, the warmth really is barely discernible. If you're in pain, you don't have time to waste on this.
