Amazon.com Product Description
Rowing and cycling are widely considered two of the best all-around activities for cardiovascular fitness and strength, and now you can enjoy both workouts in a single device with the deluxe Conversion II recumbent bike/rower. Rowing is an efficient total body workout that uses all the major muscle groups, including the legs, arms, shoulders, abdominals, and buttocks. It's also one of the best exercises for building a strong back, as well as one of the most effective low-impact aerobic exercises for people who want to increase their metabolisms and burn more calories without hurting their joints. Stationary cycling, meanwhile, is also a terrific low-impact cardiovascular exercise, with a routine that focuses on all the major muscles in your hips, thighs, and buttocks.

The Conversion II looks like a standard rower, with a molded, adjustable foam-padded seat and seat back, rotating rowing pedals, and an extruded aluminum rowing beam. However, the seat also doubles as a recumbent bike seat that supports your lower back while you ride, with foot straps holding your feet securely in place as you pedal. And that's not all, as the Conversion II also offers options for working your upper body--including such exercises as bicep curls, tricep kickbacks, and forearm curls--along with a resistance cord that attaches under the seat for light leg presses.

Other details include eight levels of smooth, quiet magnetic resistance; a multifunction electronic monitor with a large LCD display that tracks speed, distance, time, calories burned, and pulse; sturdy steel construction; a hand-pulse sensor built into the grips to measure heartbeats per minute; a weight capacity of 250 pounds; wheels for easy transport; and a folding frame for quick, effortless storage. The Conversion II measures 74.5 by 25.5 by 10 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 105 pounds.

Key Features:

  • Doubles as a recumbent bike and a rower
  • Additional upper body strengthening exercises including bicep curls, triceps kickbacks, forearm curls and more
  • Attach the resistance cord under the seat for light leg presses
  • 8 levels of smooth, quiet magnetic resistance, deluxe housing
  • Multi-function electronic monitor is built into the housing for a sleeker design with a larger LCD display for easier reading
  • Electronic monitor keeps you motivated by tracking speed, distance, time, calories burned, and pulse
  • Molded foam-padded seat and seatback
  • Rotating rowing pedals
  • Foot straps on all pedals hold feet securely in place
  • Extruded aluminum rowing beam
  • Sturdy steel construction
  • Wheels for portability
  • Folds for storage
  • Hand pulse sensor built into grips to measure heart beats per minute

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Product   February 10, 2010

This exercise gear is an excellent product and operates as advertised. Assembly with the detailed instructions provided was fairly simple. The instructions ask you to inventory the parts, in particular the bolts and nuts packaged together in a plastic bag. However, they warn you that some bolts may already be attached to their parts, so it made up-front inventory not very easy. I just went on ahead and did the assembly. When assembly was completed, I found that all parts had been included in the packaging. There was one broken part, and as suggested in the instruction booklet, I went to the Stamina Products website to order a replacement. Stamina acknowledged the request and the replacement part arrived within four days. I would recommend this product to anyone wanting a high-quality combination recumbent bicycle and rowing machine.Stamina 15-9003 Deluxe Conversion II Recumbent / Rower

5 out of 5 stars Workout Equipment   February 7, 2010

The Stamina 15-9003 is an excellent workout piece of equpment. It would be nice if the tension setting could get a little more difficult but for an older person using it it's fine. It certainly won't give you huge pecks or legs but it will give you a great cardio excercise. It set up very easy and was boxed great. I love the machine. The owners manual offers many other excercises and this was a major reason I purchased it. If you want more then an excercise bike and rower, this is your machine.

I received the Stamina rower/bike a few months ago. I wanted to use it for a while before I wrote a review, so I could comment on durability.
Overall, I am very pleased. It is constructed well and it's very smooth.
It is an excellent value, considering you get an exercise rower and a recumbent exercise bike in one.

My rower/bike arrived in perfect condition. There was absolutely no damage from shipping.
It was fairly simple to assemble, and using my own tools made it even easier. It comes with a set of rudimentary tools that will do the job, but it just takes longer.
*A note on assembly: Some of the bolts and screws are pre-installed on the unit and are not included in the bag. During assembly, if you think you are missing a bolt, look on the unit, it's probably already in place.

I read some reviews stating the resistance was too light. Well, it might be a mechanical issue or something else with individual units , but for moderate exercise, there is plenty of resistance. On the rower, I can get a good workout starting at level 4 and ending at level 6 or 7.
On the bike, I start at level 3 and work my way up to level 5 or 6.
I'm sure over the next few months I'll be using level 8 at some point, but I haven't needed to 'max' it out yet.

The monitor is nice and I like the fact that it is built-in and doesn't sit on top like the less expensive model.
It has time elapsed, distance, rpm, calories burned, and heart rate. (the heart rate feature only registers while holding the hand grips for the bike, so it won't register if you are rowing)

The rower is very smooth and the motion feels natural.
The bike is also quite smooth and the recumbent position is comfortable.
I can really work up quite a sweat and get a great workout without leaving the house.

Now for the reason I only gave four stars, which was also mentioned in other reviews: The foot rests for the rower. They are the only drawback for an otherwise superb machine.
They simply don't hold your feet securely enough. My size 12 EEE's keep slipping out. No matter how tight I make the strap. So, what happens is it 1) affects concentration and 2)by holding my feet so they won't slip, after 30 mins. it's very painful.

So, here's my remedy:
I went to Walmart and bought a cheap pair of sneakers ($20) and an assorted package of bolts, nuts, and washers ($5)
I removed the foot rests for the rower.
I removed the insoles from the sneakers.
I held the sneaker in the same position as it would be while rowing.
I drilled 4 1/4"holes through the sneaker and through the foot rest.
I then pushed the bolt through the sneaker and the foot rest, (placing a washer on the bolt first) then popped on the nut and tightened all four bolts.
I used threadlock on the nuts so vibration/movement wouldn't loosen them.
I slipped the insoles back in the sneakers and reinstalled the sneaker/footrest combo.

It is now PERFECT.

No worrying about my feet slipping and no more pain.

For $25 it was a cheap and effective fix.

I would recommend this machine highly, with the caveat that you may have to make some modifications to the foot rest.

*I've added photos to the 'customer images' to show what the modification looks like.

4 out of 5 stars Good addition to your Home Gym   November 10, 2009

I have used this machine for a week now and I am a happy user. Here are some good things.
1. The setup is easy, took me little over hour with detailed reading. The instruction manual can be little better with more diagrams but it's OK.
2. The design and quality are good. I would not give it a professional Gym equipment quality but it's good addition to your home gym.
3. The bicycle and rower are good. The machine is quiet.
4. The heart rate monitor is accurate. I have a wireless heart monitor and that rate is captured pretty quickly on this machine. Even on the expensive treadmill in the fitness center, it takes more time when you hold the handle.
5. There are strength training exercises given on the instruction manual. Those are good.
6. The seat is comfortable. I was impressed by comfort and convenience using it.
7. It easily folds upwards and saves space.
Here are some cons.
1.When I started the machine for the first time, it gave a huge squeaking noise. Upon examination, I saw a scratch on the main bar. the seat hook was scratching on the bar. I had to hammer it on the side. Then it was OK. I wonder this is a manufacturing defect or some damage during transport.
2. Need to add more resistance. On the highest level it's not that hard to row.
3. It had some weird smell. After a while I realized the seat was stinking. Had to spray the deodorizer.

I would give 4.5 stars just for the reasons above.
I would recommend it for your home exercise. It is a fun and useful machine for many types of workouts. I normally buy from Amazon since it beats Ebay prises now-a-days. Here is a hint though - research more and you'll get better deal.

4 out of 5 stars So far so good   July 3, 2009

The actual product seems to be working out pretty good, although I have only been using it about 4 weeks. The only complaint that I would have is that it arrived damaged. This was not discovered until it was being put together as the packaging material was in the way upon the delivery inspection. The damage consists of a large dent on the seat track on the top surface and a banged up case around the pedals. Neither issue seems to have any affect on the operation of the bike, but it would be nice to have a better packaging set up on such an expensive items. If it wasn't for being damaged, I would have given it a 5 / 5 star review as the bike itself is very nice, easy to use and easy to assemble.
