Product Description
With animal-like mobility, this vacuum searches high and low for dust, dirt and pet hair to destroy. Other vacuums have wheels that go in straight lines, so you have to shuffle backwards and forwards to clean. But Dyson Ball technology allows you to steer smoothly around furniture and other obstacles with a turn of the wrist. Five-year warranty. Model DC25AN.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous!   March 10, 2010
C. Watkins (Clinton, SC USA)
My old bagless vacuum "bit the dust" so to speak, just as I'd been shopping around for another one. I'd heard a lot of great things about the Dyson vacuum cleaners and after hours of reading reviews, both good and bad, decided to purchase one. I had been very reluctant because of the price of the Dyson, but managed to find a new one at a significant discount. The assembly was an easy 1-2-3 process (literally) and I had it running in less than 5 minutes after unboxing it. It is light-weight and much quieter than I'd expected considering the power it possesses. It easily picked up loads of dirt from my smaller rugs in the foyer~~I'd read a few reviews that claimed it would "suck up" the rug, but I didn't have that problem with my rugs. Next, I tackled the hard-wood floors. With the beater-brush turned off, it cleaned everything in sight without the old problem I'd had with my former vac where it would throw the dirt and debris out the back and scatter it everywhere. It got into the corners and laid down flat enough to get under my kitchen table. I live on a farm and a lot of dirt gets dragged in daily, so it wasn't surprising that during the vacuuming of three large area rugs, I had to empty the canister three times. My old vacuum apparently wasn't doing much good! Did well on persian/oriental rugs without evident harm; just loads of dirt. I also own a parrot who makes a tremendous mess with his feathers, powder down and food. This vacuum sucked up even the smallest of downy feathers if I got to within a few inches of them on the hardwood. Next, I tried out the smaller hand attachment for use on furniture. It has its own rotating brush for picking up cat/dog hair (have two dogs and a cat as well). With other vacs, the moment you apply the attachment to the furniture, the brush bogs down. Not this one! It picked up every cat hair off a chair I'd gone over several times with an attachment on my old vac. I must say, I am certainly satisfied with every aspect of this vacuum cleaner. Finally, I'll be able to reach up and get the cobwebs off the ceiling beams that I just couldn't get to with my smaller vacuum hose. The Dyson's wand extends to places I'd not been able to reach without a 12-foot ladder in the past. Definitely worth every penny. Shop around and get one for less~~they're out there. My sister has a refurbished one and is equally happy with hers.

5 out of 5 stars Vacuum issues finally solved!   March 7, 2010

I finally broke down and bought a Dyson. I've been through countless "cheaper" vacuums and am tired of having to purchase a new one every other year. So I threw out my Eureka ( a replacement of a Hoover) and purchased the DC25 Animal. I have a checkerboard style rug in my laundry room with alternating high and low pile. Since the laundry room is off the garage, a lot of dirt and grass get deposited on that rug. My old vacuum could never get the dirt out of the low squares. The DC25 cleaned it like a pro. It performed just as well on the low squares as it did on the high ones. Afterward, I vacuumed my bedroom carpet and the Dyson picked up all of the gunk my old vacuum kept spitting out. It did an excellent job around the base boards and cleaned dirt from the edges even without the crevice tool. Love, love, love this vacuum!

I then tried it out on my hardwood floors. The beater bar button is conveniently located on the front so I didn't have to bend down to switch it off. (Okay, I'm only 5'2", but still...) Our lower floor is all hardwood but we have several rugs on the floor. I needed a vacuum that could switch between the two quickly and easily. The Dyson had it covered. Press once and the beater bar switched off, press again and it was back on. Loved it! It picked up dust and dirt as well as larger bits of dry cat food. My floors passed the bare feet test and I didn't feel any grit or residue left behind. With two kids and two cats, that's a miracle. The vacuum performed beyond my expectations.

As others have mentioned, the ball makes cornering a breeze. I could maneuver around chairs and other furniture with ease. I did have to switch outlets a couple of times, but I've never had a vacuum cord long enough to cover the whole house so I'm used to that. The dust bin emptied with a touch of a button and nothing got caught in the bin requiring manual removal.

I just purchased this vacuum today so I can't speak to its durability, but so far it has been worth every penny.

5 out of 5 stars Quality vs Quantity   March 3, 2010

I purchased this vacuum with a little apprehension. I have learned that high price does not equal high quality. Reading past reviews, I saw that people were disappointed, however I do believe that they were expecting more due to brand association and price. I have used a Kirby Legend II, the Hoover Platinum and a in home central vacuum system. Compared the the Kirby it is much lighter and easier to use, the Kirby also has to have regular belt and bag changes. The Kirby is a very powerful machine, but for it's size and weight you would expect that. Overall the Kirby was/is much more expensive but had quality you could feel. The Hover Platinum is the closest vacuum that could compare to the Dyson. The brush head and canister are larger, and the cord is longer, these points alone made me almost purchase that instead. It also has an indicator light that lets you know if the carpet in clean or dirty, a novelty item, but fun to watch. What sold me on the Dyson was the ball and the ease of maneuvering and pivoting. The house vacuum is just convenient and will spoil you. However it is very expensive and is usually installed while the house is being built. The best thing about the house vacuum is the option of having suction levers along the baseboards around the house where you please. The kitchen is a great place to have one, if there is a small spill, just flip the lever, grab a broom and sweep it in the wall. No vacuum can compare in my opinion. With that said, the Dyson is a less expensive option that is comparable in terms of convenience. I also own a Roomba, which is a lifesaver, especially when it comes to an easy daily vacuuming all around the house and leaving the deep vacuuming to once a week. If you own a pet or keep or windows open often, get a Roomba. Overall I would recommend this vacuum. It is light, effortless, convenient and good looking too. My only complaint is the plastic used, I would have thought it would have been thicker and denser, but that is what makes it so light, however I would have rather had denser plastic than a lighter vacuum.

I hate cleaning. Particularly vacuuming, which is on par to cleaning the tub on the list of things I avoid until I absolutely cannot help it any more (which is usually when guests are coming over). The biggest compliment I can give this vacuum is that it makes me want to vacuum my floors. It is light. It was easy to assemble. It picks up hair from my two long hair black cats that embeds itself in my tan carpet. Best vacuum I've ever owned.

4 out of 5 stars This vacuum is the new love of my life   February 21, 2010

I love the Dyson Animal DC 25 vacuum. I read all the reviews for months before deciding to make my purchase and I couldn't be happier. My house has a combination of hardwood floors, Berber carpeting, plush area rugs, and tile and it does an excellent job in all places. It's great at picking up crumbs and sand my children bring in, household dust, and the animal fur left behind by my cat and two dogs. I have an area rug that no vacuum seemed capable of getting the matted-in fur off of, and the Dyson Animal sucked it up with no problem. The canister is a bit small, but I only have to empty it once, sometimes twice, when vacuuming my 1100 SF house. The cord is a bit on the short side as well, but even with a longer cord, I tend to unplug my vacuum and replug it in a couple of times while cleaning. The only real issue I have is that the hose can be a bit awkward to use with the long handle attachment on it.

I saw some people complain that the brushes on the spinning part have damaged their hardwood floors. I have not had that problem. As long as the vacuum is in it's locked, upright position and I'm not pushing it, the brushes don't start spinning and I'm able to manually turn them off. The vacuum has even survived accidently running over shoelaces and Legos without any damage. My old Hoover Windtunnel broke any time I ran over anything that wasn't dust.

The vacuum is super light weight and really easy to carry and maneuver when using. It was completely worth the $550 price tag (especially considering the 5 year warranty).
