Poor Product/Poor Service November 26, 2008 This product came with pieces missing. There was an empty box which looked like it should have had extra ear pieces but there were none. I could hardly hear anything when using this product. Hearbeat was barely audible. I returned this product over 2 weeks ago and still have not been credited my purchase price.
One step behind Littmann September 11, 2008 I'm a Geriatrician in a university hospital, and after manyyyyy stethoscopes I had bought over the last 10 years , I gained good experience with these valuable tools. After reading the exciting mechanical specifications, I bought this stethoscope, hoping it'll be a backup for my Littmann. The specs mentioned makes it an excellent match for the Littmann Cardiology series.
I own Littmann Cardiology II, which I use for body auscultation, and a cheap one for blood pressure measurement. The only complaint I have with my Littmann is that it has a short tube. So, it's not helping when I have to measure blood pressure, or when I have to slide it from the collar of a patient's shirt to hear beneath his / her clothes for rapid chest auscultation.
When I held the stethoscope in my hand, I was amazed by the good quality of the materials and the excellent design. I noticed only one defect (which is a very significant one); the chest piece is not well fitted around the metal pivot. So, some external noise will leak while you are wearing it. Something I don't find in my Littmann. I've submitted a photo comparing both stethoscopes, to show how the littmann's better fitting is compared to the looser Kila's fitting.
I made a fast comparison between my old Littmann Cardiology II and Kila's stethoscope;
* The weight; the Kila's stethoscope is respectfully heavy as Littmann's cardiology series. Thanks to the metal chest piece which almost exactly matches the Littmann's cardiology chest piece in dimensions and shape.
* The material; tube is as thick but significantly softer to bent than Littmann's. The chest piece is a heavy steel one.
* The built; all parts fits very well, with care given to details EXCEPT the chest piece pivot!! which is a major part in the design to the stethoscope. When I first took the Kila out the box, I immediately noticed that the chest piece is not secured around the metal pivot. My worries were confirmed when I noticed the leak of ambient noise while auscultating. The Littman had a far better tight fitting of the chest piece, which eliminated more noise.
* The acoustic properties; Clarity is equal to Littmann and amplification is also equal if not a little higher. But again, the noise is bit higher than Littmann.
* the price; compare 27$ to 160$ for Cardiology III (the Cardiology III has an additional diaphragm that can be fixed over the bell to have another smaller diaphragm to examine the carotid artery)
Don't get me wrong; it's not as noisy as cheap stethoscopes, it's just not isolating ambient noise AS GOOD AS Littmann, but it is still doing a good job.
Finally, I would like to remind everybody with the most important fact in using stethoscopes; " what is between your ears is more important than what is in your ears" if you are not trained to hear something, then no matter how expensive or how good is your tool, you'll not hear it.
I compare stethoscopes to calculators; a cashier will only use two button in a state-of-the-art scientific calculator (+ and =), while a skilled engineer can design a car engine using a piece of paper and a pencil, but he/she will do miracles with this sophisticated device. The power of this calculator can go as far as the TRAINING of its user can drive it to.
Overall, I STRONGLY recommend this stethoscope that achieves 90-95% of Littman Cardiology, at only 15% of the price.
Unless you are a skilled engineer building a revolutionary engine, then you'll be more then happy with this excellent calculator. It'll have more than you need.
