A great little workhorse! December 1, 2008 After reading numerous reviews, and paying almost $[...] for a professional carpet cleaning, I decided to get the 9500. I was fortunate enough to find it at a local Linens and Things store during their closeout sale, so I saved almost $[...].
The assembly was fairly simple. I tried it on my daughter's 5'x7' area rug (brown) that she was going to throw away after her puppy considered using the rug continuously as it's pee mat. I used the sample solutions that came with the cleaner. It took me about 1 hour to go over the rug three times, twice with the solution, and once as a water rinse. The rug was nearly dry when I was done. The water came up dirty and the carpet nap had a "fluff" look to it, so I know the suction and brushes were doing their job. Although I couldn't smell any urine residue after the cleaning, my daughter said she got a whiff of a faint odor. However, after the rug was completely dry, she said the odor was gone. (I actually think she was smelling the dampness of the rug and backing.) It took me one refill of water to do this size rug but that wasn't really a big deal. The suction was fantastic and left no residue on the carpet after finishing.
I decided to purchase, for future use, the Pet Odor and Soil with Scotch Guard solution for any other cleaning. I also bought the prespray that is made for the pet soil as this is the main reason I need to continuously clean my carpet.
My home is 50/50 (carpet and tile) and this cleaner is geared for both. I used to have a Hoover Floor Mate for my hard floors which cleaned nicely for the first few times. However, the rubber seal around the floor nozzle has ripped so it no longer gets the suction it once had. I have not been able to find a replacement part for the machine as Hoover has changed the design, so my Floor Mate is now a piece of junk. I am curious as to how well the Bissell will clean my tile. Right now, we still use a spray bottle of water and a swiffer type mop (after vacuuming first). I thought the steam might clean the tile much better, but reviews I have read using these carpet steamers on tile have not been that great. I will have to update this review once I clean my tile floor.
Overall, I gave the machine 4 stars because it does what I purchased it for. The assembly was easy. It has tools for hard floors and upholstery too. Unfortunately, I can only store some of the tools on the unit, so I keep the others in the mesh bag that came with the machine (and store it somewhere near the machine so it doesn't get lost). The cord length is adequate; any longer, it would get in the way. I was both surprised and pleased as to how quiet the steamer is. (My vacuum is by far noisier.) The buttons are located on the handle so they are easy to reach. I really like having separate containers for the water and solution. The machine blends the mixture automatically based on which cleaning level I choose (there are 4). That way, any solution I have remaining, I can pour back into its container for next use instead of having to dispose and waste it. The carpet was almost dry once I was finished. I am quite pleased. More information will be added if needed as I use this machine more.
Bissell 9500 November 12, 2008 I'm not a "review writer", but this cleaner is so amazing, I have to send one in. I had debated having the carpets cleaned, or purchasing a steam cleaner this year. Sears gave me 30 days to return it if I wasn't happy, and I fully expected to after the first try. I started on a particularly bad section of hallway, carpet that is 13 years old, including stains that the professional cleaners had not been able to remove. We also recently had a hurricane here, and were without power for two weeks. So the doors and windows remained open, with the added bonus of all the sawdust being tracked in from cutting wood to board up the house. I was shocked that my first run through produced incredible results! Even the stains the pros left behind. Even the new puppy stains. And it was easy! It made me want to keep going! I did the whole house in two evenings, and cannot get over the results. I had purchased fabric to recover the kitchen chairs which were in pretty rough shape. For the heck of it, I tried the upholstery attachment on one of them. The seat cushion came out looking new. I did all 4 chairs in 20 minutes. I am so happy with this product, I went back and purchased the warranty, because I know this cleaner will be used alot over the next 3 years. Sears also nicely price adjusted it, since it is now on sale.
This steam cleaner ruined my carpets! November 10, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This steam cleaner worked great the first time. After a few more uses my carpets are now totally ruined. It has left light and dark stripes on my carpets and the water does not dispense evenly it leaves an inch wide stripe of water. I was told on the phone that no that was not normal for this steam cleaner. Now they are sending me a return Fedex label to send it back to them for either a repair or replacement. I did not keep the box so now I have to find a large strong box and package it up and take it to Fedex which is very time consuming. I am going to file a claim to have my carpets replaced but I am very skeptical it will result in Bissell resolving this. Until I hear from Bissell we have to live with this carpet that has been ruined from using their machine until they decide what to do! At this point I highly advise against purchasing a steam cleaner from Bissell. I wish I had purchased another brand. Bissell has put us in a very expensive situation.
Great Carpet Cleaner, Great Service November 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just used the Bissell 9500 ProHeat and I love it. I had a dirt devil previously and the Bissell is so much better than that one and better than most rental cleaners that I have used. I love that it has on container for both the clean and dirty water. It makes refilling and dumping a lot easier. Most cleaners have two tanks but the Bissell has one tank with a "bladder" (their term) inside of it. When the clean water runs out the dirty water tank is full so you refill and dump at the same time. This is a big time saver. Though the tank does not look big it holds a good amount of water and lasts a long time.
I also like that the cleaning solution is kept in it's own tank and the solution is mixed in with the water automatically depending on what cycle you use (heavy, normal, light). The clean shot is a nice touch too. Previously I would walk around with a spray bottle and spray spots. Now I just hit a button while I'm cleaning. Again, a nice time saver.
The attachments are nice. There are four brushes. One for the stairs, one for furniture, one for spot cleaning and a turbo brush. The first three are all the same except they are different widths. The turbo brush spins when in use. The hose and attachments work well at cleaning tough spots and are the best attachments on any cleaner I have used. The only problem I have with the attachments is that there is only three spots on the cleaner itself to hang the brushes, but I have four brushes. Not a big deal but kind of strange.
I would have given four and a half stars but it wouldn't let me. So it has to be four. The reason is that while cleaning small carpet fuzz accumulates on the floor when you are cleaning. The fuzz does get sucked up after a while but it gets kind of annoying having to keep going over spots you already did because of the fuzz. The carpet also leaves streaks in the carpet, but I have found that to be true with all cleaners.
Overall I find this machine to be wonderful. In addition to a good product I also received good customer service from Bissell. One of the hose hangers was broken when I took it out of the box. I called Bissell and they sent me a new one at no charge and with no trouble. Also Amazon gave me great service. I bought this ant a higher price on Amazon and a week later I found it for a lower price. They refunded me the difference.
If only the "Lemon Law" applied to such items November 7, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this in August, assembly was a pain but OK. Used it right away loved the way my rugs looked. We had a halloween party, on top of our every day wear with 2 dogs and 4 kids. I wanted to clean the rugs to get ready for Thanksgiving- IT DID NOT WORK! I paid $299 for this at Bed Bath and Beyond and it only worked 1 time. I called Bissell, they made me go through a hundred steps to check if it was user error. IT WASN'T. They suggest I take it to the repair shop, maybe I ask too much but I want a refund, I don't want a repaired machine. For what I paid it should have worked at least 2 times before repairs were needed. If the machine is that cheap I'd rather get a refund and buy a HOOVER. They will not refund but will send me a postage paid return label and when they receive the machine send me a brand new one. Of course I need to find a box large enough to send it in since I didn't save the original package (we're limited on storage so I don't save empty boxes. All this back and forth pretty much guarantees I will not have a new machine in time for Thanksgiving so I will be renting one. I only wish I could bill Bissell for the rental since they won't refund the faulty machine they sold me. There should be a "Lemon Law" for home appliances
