5 out of 5 stars A true work of engineering genius1   October 23, 2008
This book holder is a true design gem. It will hold and twist the position of the book as it floats over you while reading in bed! My hands have become arthritic over time, due to lifting and holding heavy objects. Books have been one of those objects, but I hate to give up my night-time reading habit. I am thrilled to have the ability to truly relax and enjoy my reading again.

5 out of 5 stars Once you assemble it, a pleasure!   September 11, 2008
One review noted the difficulty of mounting the wheels on this stand: I found it took a good deal of pressure. Mounting the pageholders is a bit of a pain: you'll need a wrench and a screw driver and it's all a little awkward.

Once together, though, the stand is a pleasure to use. I've been having back and neck problems. Once I strap the book in the holder, I can lean back in a recliner, rest my back and neck, and easily read for a long period. The stand allows you to postion the book pretty much any way you want to, tilting in any direction; the book remains stable. You have to decide how many pages to strap in, and how many to leave free; the more you leave free the less flat the pages you're reading will be.
But I can't say this was a major problem.

I've only had the stand for a few days, but it seems plenty sturdy.

5 out of 5 stars Indispensable   June 10, 2008
I have in the back of my mind a select few items I think of (the gods forbid) that if the house were to catch on fire, that I would save. And this is one of them, although, some textbooks I used in college tipped the scales at 30lb's? (Give or take?) I went ahead and sacrificed the books by pulling them apart so as not to put undue stress on my true and trusted friend. If you see some homeless guy on the side of the road walking around with a book holder in his hands - give a honk - it's me....

4 out of 5 stars very nice but lifespan may be limited.   May 25, 2008

This product is just about exactly what I was looking for. I use this to read while laying in bed. I get a good amount of use out of it, but not as much as I had thought I would. It holds a variety of books nicely from textbooks to magazines. It will hold a 5 pound book and allow you to lay down while reading it. It takes some work to get the book in the straps but it holds the book snug and adjusts to a wonderful assortment of positions, from sideways if your laying on your side to upside down. Lighter books, under a pound, can be held by the page holders alone and don't need the fuss of the straps.

The product seems well built except that there is one key joint which is connected by two plastic parts which have shown some wear in the months I have used it. Heavy books cause this piece to loosen and the book holder will sag a bit. Hopefully these pieces will not wear too much, or I find a way to fix/replace them, and I can get years of use out of this nice product.

I had no problem getting this product together.

1 out of 5 stars horrible quality control   May 22, 2008
Do not purchase this item unless you have a machine shop or know a machinist. The wheels proved impossible to mount on the base. A drill press would have allowed me to enlarge the holes in the cast iron base. The base as received looks nothing like the base in the photograph, so I assume this is a change (presumably for the worse).
