Wheelchair Van Lift

January 25th, 2007

There basically 2 methods to get into a wheelchair apart from wheelchair transfer.

Wheelchair lifts for vans

Wheelchair lifts for vans were very popular in 90s when there was no mini vans. Full sized vans have high ground clearance and hence ramps were not a choice. When you decide to use lifts for wheelchair transfer to a van, then the van needs minimal modifications. Lowering the floor height or raising ceiling are totally unnecessary. Only modifications required would be some interior seat adjustments. These days lifts will be a good alternative as they do not require huge parking spaces for vans.

2 different types of wheelchair lifts are availablein the market today.

Platform Wheelchair Lifts

The best wheelchair lifts available today. Platform wheelchair lifts look just like ramps but are compact and simple to use. Both automatic and manual operating lifts are available. The automatic lifts fold and unfolds automatically where as in a manual lift manual folding and unfolding is necessary.

Rotary wheelchair lifts

These lifts use swing technique to transfer person in wheelchair. They are not as stable as platform lifts. Quite tedious to install and operate. The wheelchair van’s design also should be compatible to fix these rotary wheelchair lift
