5 out of 5 stars Standard of the Industry   October 21, 2008
SELLER: Fast shipping; I'm happy.
PRODUCT: Sonicare is the standard of the industry. This is a replacement for one of the very first versions...that lasted for years.

Very impressed that it came with two heads and a travel case.
Upon arrival, I charged it. It still has plenty of juice after twice a day use for two weeks.

Also like it self timer function. My old unit did not have this.

CONCLUSION: Just buy it, you'll like it.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome toothbrush   October 20, 2008

This is the best toothbrush I've ever used. Great features, such as interval timed brushing and the ability to change the speed. Good investment for the health of your teeth. Plus, it gives you that 'just from the dentist' clean feeling every time you brush.

1 out of 5 stars Bad Buttons and Discontinued   October 17, 2008
The buttons on these things disintegrate in about 7 months of normal use. You can keep using it until enough water (and mold!) gets inside and shorts out the unit. I have had two replaced, under warranty, for this reason and now they send me a chintzy 710 because they are killing the elite line. I spent $150 on this unit and then they replace it with one that costs $40 less. Why they don't offer the top of the line to replace what was there top of the line is beyond me. Actually it's not, it's a good way to get out ahead. Seems cheap to me.

1 out of 5 stars Discontinued for a good reason   October 11, 2008

This product has been discontinued most likely because the on/off button keeps falling off. I have had to replace three under warranty. The first two times, they were accusatory and said their research showed toothpaste was breaking down the rubber. Huh?

The last time, they sent the R710 to replace it, which is not comparable to the 9500. The R710 has only one brush head, no cord storage in the base, and no sensitive setting. The R732 has the extras including two brush heads, but Sonicare refused to send it.

So I have to go out and buy three brush heads (they don't sell singles)and live with a lesser product because Sonicare makes bad products and doesn't honor their warranty. I'll never buy a Sonicare again.

1 out of 5 stars Planned Obsolescence   September 27, 2008

Here are two things Phillips will not tell you about their Sonicare toothbrushes and heads.

1) The collar that holds the toothbrush to the handle will disintegrate in a couple of months. That's what prompted this review, because they would not replace mine after it fell apart two weeks after purchasing a replacement.

They manufacturer these things to disintegrate so you will continue to buy replacements - planned obsolescence. However, I suspect their China supplier is skimping on the plastic specifications and they fall apart in weeks instead of months. (Do you think China would really do that?)

2) UNPLUG your base until you need to charge the toothbrush. If you charge it up overnight, then unplug the base, the toothbrush will work for four brushings per day for about a month. Then, when it signals or stops, plug the base in to charge it.

This method will allow your toothbrush to work for five years or longer. If you keep the base plugged in all the time, these NiCad batteries develop memory and will stop functioning after 18 to 24 months.

A bonus, if you travel a lot as I do, you don't have to pack the charger. Just make sure it's topped off and you're good for a month's vacation.
